Envisaging Strategies in realising Brunei Vision 2035 with regards to Tourism Industry

Project based learning is underlying theme of the project that is explicitly derived based on content standards and concepts of academic discipline. An arduous project that helped students to learn key academic content along with the developing and practicing 21st Century Skills. Students in groups were to research about the ways to realize Brunei Darussalam's VISION 2035, a national development plan that was drawn to maintain and develop the economy of the country, with reference to Tourism Industry. Brunei is trying to diversify its Oil & Gas based economy by sustaining and promoting other industries. Students researched on how VISION 2035 is achievable by promoting Tourism. Students in groups visited places of interest in the country and were able to find interesting facts and challenges faced by the tourism department. Apart from these challenges, they analyzed and reanalyzed the basic structure and the problems, also they were able to figure possible solutions at a primary level. In the next stage they meet tourists and have recorded their opinion about the country and carried out a survey to figure out the problems in their point of view. Based on the survey results they draw graphs and therefore found the most feasible strategies that has to be implemented. It included drafting new policies, amending present policies and laws of the government and to bring more attractions in the country.
Students drafted workable postulations that were quite impressive. Born with technology, these young minds were able to think beyond their level that they wanted the country to develop suitable E-Apps to promote Tourism, also the insights drawn helped the government to make sure that the applications like Brunei Shines, Brunei Guidebook has been updated, posted new deals that were currently available and be fixed for bugs. The students also suggested the need to promote our schools 'App - Brunei Treasure' with the tourism department.
Students were given an opportunity to think out of box by solving real-life problems with their inquiry skills as they are prerequisite for success. They practiced higher order thinking skills by supporting and rebutting information from various resources. Throughout this project, my students were able to learn more from their own experiences and thus were capable of gaining 21st century skills like problem solving, collaboration, critical thinking, flexibility, creativity, teamwork etc.
